Recovery and Metatarsalgia

Metatarsalgia is a condition of the foot that can cause intense pain and tenderness in the ball of your foot. I’ve been told it’s usually caused by wearing tight shoes, or when you have diabetes.
I tend to think that metatarsalgia is a serious condition, but I can’t help but wonder if it’s not just another sign of the human fear of death.
Is metatarsalgia really that bad? It’s just extreme pain in a part of the body. Yes, I imagine it can be very painful, and maybe you will have to take some time off work while you recover but after all – what is death?
I’m not saying that this is a good thing, but what causes death? When you die, your body stops working. Your heart can’t pump blood through your body anymore and the various organs in your body will stop doing their jobs.
Does it matter that you died? If your brain is the conscious part of your body, and if I’m right about how consciousness works then when you die, so does the mind. Nothing remains to be aware.
Yes, you will die someday. But is that so bad? You have to spend a certain amount of time alive anyway before your body fails and the consciousness in it disappears.
